Week 1
Acceptance can mean a lot of different things to many different people. Acceptance can be accepting people into your life, accepting challenges that you have to overcome, or even just accepting yourself for who you are. It’s a difficult challenge to learn to adapt to the process of acceptance. When people are different from you and hold different views, opinions, or ways of living, it's hard to see them as someone you want to spend time with. Learning to ignore the things about someone you don’t agree with and accept them for who they are is a huge step towards being a better person. Learning to get along and everyone is so important in developing your character. Another way that acceptance plays a huge role in everyday life is acknowledging challenges are going to come your way daily, big or small and you have to accept the fact that they are there and you have to overcome them. Allowing yourself to preserve through the rough patches in life is so important when growing as a person. Lastly, understanding who you are and that it's okay if you are not perfect as a person plays a huge role in acceptance. Accepting your own flaws and knowing it's not the end of the world if you are not the perfect image you set for yourself in your mind, is just as important as accepting others. Overall acceptance plays a key role in becoming a better everyday person. Being able to accept all different things in life is so important to who you are.

Quote of the week:
“Make improvements, not excuses. Seek respect, not attention." -Roy T Bennett
This inspirational quote can have a huge impact on individuals as it is explaining how to better yourself as a person. Excuses are things people use on a daily basis as a habit. For example, “I didn’t have time to complete this assignment”, is an excuse that is used when not having time management skills. In this quote it is saying instead of making up excuses for things you didn’t do, make improvements on ways to get them done. This is extremely important because excuses get you nowhere in life as you are not growing as a person. Bennet does a great job of explaining the need for improvements in life throughout his quote. The second part of the quote is explaining how if all you are reaching for in life is attention from others, you are going to waste a lot of your time. Attention can be good or bad, but if all of your actions in life are in reach of gaining attention from others you will be disappointed in the end. Your actions should be for you and what you want in life, not for someone else. It can be good to be recognized which is like attention but in a way that you are respected. Being respected means that what you do is for yourself and others recognize you for a great accomplishment, they respect who you are and what you are doing as you make life decisions. In all this quote is explaining to the reader that if you do things for yourself and not for anybody else without making excuses for yourself you will be a good person and overall greatly respected by many.

September 7 2022 Quote of the week: “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty”. - Maya Angelou This quote is using the example of the changes a caterpillar must go through before reaching its final stage as a beautiful butterfly. This is basically saying that in order to reach the final destination of your goal, you have to go through the obstacles that may not always be pretty. Nothing is always perfect, like a butterfly. It takes time and patience to succeed at something or reach a goal that you have set for yourself. A butterfly is a perfect example of this because it shows growth. You have to be willing to grow as a person to understand the different stages someone goes through in order to get what they want in the end. A butterfly does not start as this perfect, gorgeous butterfly, instead it starts as a caterpillar that does not have many of the traits a butterfly does after going through change. Once it has spent time growing and becoming a new individual,or “butterfly”, it blossoms into something with beautiful colors, wings, and looks nothing like it has before. However, in order to get there it went through a long process. I think it is important to take this example into consideration when setting any goal in your life. Nothing in life should just be handed to you, it takes hard work and time to achieve goals. It's also important to not lose who you started as, then from how you ended up after reaching certain goals. There are so many things to keep in mind, such as everyone goes through different stages of their lives at different paces. It's important to stay true to yourself while reaching to accomplish your goals for yourself. Word count: 281 Blog 6
“People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals, goals that do not inspire them.” ~Anthony Robbins This quote is calling out people who do not set goals for themselves that they really want to achieve in life at some point. I feel like at least at some point in your life, probably in school you are asked to set a list of goals for yourself that you would like to meet. It doesn’t matter short term, long term, or life long goals, they should all be important and have some meaning behind them.I try and set bigger goals for myself at least once a year, and look back to see how far I have come later that year. I think it is crucial to be able to set achievable goals so that you have a reason to work hard towards something that matters to you. I have set many goals that I have not met and I think that it's okay because that means I will just have to work harder to reach them next time. I think having the feeling of accomplishing certain goals is very important to your mental health and having the feeling that you have accomplished something that takes you closer to your bigger life goals is great. This quote is saying that if you set pointless goals for yourself, and not ones that will make you really strive to work harder and meet your goal, then there is no point in even setting goals. Goals are only effective if you really want to achieve them in the long run. Goals can make or break our future lives and we need to realize this now. October 12, 2022
Blog 8 - “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have”-Thomas Jefferson. I think that anyone who reads this can have a personal connection to this quote because it is basically saying that when you work hard things go your way. I Think that it is not as much luck but instead it is you are benefiting from your perseverance through your work. When you want to meet a goal, it is obvious that you have to work towards it. When you don't work as hard as your potential it is clear that you did not have as much “luck”. I think personally when I do work hard, and give 110% things always go somewhat my way. I understand that it's not always guaranteed that when you work hard you get what you want, but your chances are definitely higher. I believe that is what he meant when he said luck. It's more of a higher chance that things will be in your favor. Whether you are working towards better grades, better relationships, or even working for a spot on a team. You are always given a better chance when you are giving it your all and working your hardest to show your best. This also comes with having a strong mentality when it comes to working harder. If you are not showing a strong minded personality everything you are working towards will not matter anymore. I think this overall is a very important skill to learn in life, as if you don’t give your all everytime, you will never be as successful as you should be. Word count- 255 Blog 10-
10/26/22 Quote- “Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs” -Farrah Gray If you don’t care enough to work hard and accomplish your highest goals, then someone else will need you to reach theirs. This quote means that not only do you have to work hard, but it will be for someone else and not you. I think this quote is trying to get you to think if you would rather work hard for your personal goals, all while trying to accomplish what you want to achieve in your life, or if you would rather work hard for someone else while seeing their dreams and goals become a reality. It is all a mindset and if you are willing to take risks that will benefit you later in life. Some people don’t have the intentions to make something of themselves and reach high goals in their future while others want to achieve everything they possibly can in their lifetime. It is important to remember that you can only get as far as you think is possible. I have a tendency to set limits on myself, in many different things in life. I constantly need to remind myself that anything is possible if I have the right mindset. One of my main goals this year is to stay positive no matter what is going on in my life. Through the ups and downs I need to keep a positive mindset all while working hard at accomplishing my goals. This quote is important for everyone to keep in mind while trying to achieve anything in life, because it's all up to you if you are willing to push yourself to build your own dreams to the best of your ability, or just stay where you are helping others with their future. 11/28/22 Object of the week- Baby blankets Baby blankets can mean so much to an individual and at the same time mean nothing to someone else. Many people remember their baby blanket distinctly, or some may even still have it. A piece of material can hold so many memories and emotions for one person. To me, keeping a baby blanket is trying to hold onto your childhood. In all reality, it is very difficult to grow up, and your baby blanket is always a symbol of what it was like to be a child. It holds so many memories that you had when you were a child, and can be such a significant piece of your life. This blanket can help someone be okay when growing up. This allows the person to hold on to a physical item to remind them of what it was like as a kid, but still giving the opportunity to grow up. A baby blanket is an irreplaceable item because they are different for every single person. Some people may not even know what their blanket looked like. Personally, I know exactly what it looks like and I am pretty sure I still have it somewhere. This blanket is something that can bring you back to when you were still a child, but also still growing. It's amazing that a blanket can hold so much importance in someone’s life. This blanket was at the start of someone’s life, and it is really hard to get rid of that. When something, even if it is just a blanket, has been at your side since you can remember, there has to be some connection between you and a blanket that you will never forget. Word count:280 Blog 14 December 7 Quote - “Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” –Oprah Winfrey This quote actually has a very impactful meaning to me. Throughout high school you see who your true friends are and you also see who just uses you for the things you have. I feel like I am finally at a point in my life where I can see who my true friends are. I also think it is important to be kind to those who you don’t view as true trustworthy friends. I have learned who I can truly trust, and who I just am kind to as a person. I have found it is much easier on myself when I can be friends with those certain people but know they have a limit on how much I can actually trust them. I know who will actually be there when I need them most. The past few years I have struggled with my health and this has brought light to those who truly care about our friendships. It's crazy how much something can mean when it's from a certain person, because I know they are one of few who really mean what they say. I hope to continue this into my adult life because I feel I am smart about my relationships and know who I need to keep close. I feel like I have always been a true friend to many, but it's hard when they aren’t true friends back. However, throughout all this I am so happy with the people in my life because I know they are genuine. I would rather have a small group of true friends than a room full of fake ones. I think that highschool is the time in my life where I figured this out and it makes me happy knowing that I do have so many genuine friends. I will charise the learning experiences that I have had, and know that I will always have people who will ride the bus when the limo breaks down. Word count - 326 Blog 16 Jan 11, 2023 Object of the week: Keys The word keys can be looked at in many different ways as different individuals, it can be as simple as the keys to your house, or as inspirational as the keys that lead you through life. In every meaning, no matter how you look at it, a key is something that opens up something for you. Again, being something so simple like your door, or a key that unlocks success for your future. When I personally think of the word key, I think of key moments that unlock a successful outcome in my life. Key can also mean important, but they are always key factors that open an opportunity for your own future. Keys can be lost, and without them there is no way for you to get home, or reach your end destination. It's important to remember that you need keys to live your life the way you want, and only you can use those keys in your favor. I also think about how no one's keys look the same, they are all different and unique in their own way, a lot like the stepping stones to our own future. Everyone goes through different challenges, and learns their own life lessons. Keys can honestly represent a lot that happens in your lifetime. The end result is somewhat all the same as it allows us to reach our end destination. We just have to use these keys in life so that we are able to be happy with the destination that is met when we use those keys to open our own specific doors. Word count: 266 Blog 19 February 8,2023 Everything's an argument- Are violent video games appropriate entertainment for teenagers? Violent video games can often send the wrong message and teach children the wrong ideas. I believe that there are many other forms of entertainment instead of entertainment that can be viewed instead of video games portraying violence. This can cause harm to teens' mental health if all of their time is spent watching these violent acts. These games often lead to events that may have been prevented if time was limited surrounding themselves with violence. I think that no matter the age, these games can still be harmful. Yes, they are meant for a more mature audience, but that is not always guaranteed. Many teens who should not have their surroundings filled with this maturity level, or simply just are not mature enough need to not play these violent games. I think that if anything, there should be a limit of time you can spend playing these violent games, not just having an unlimited amount of time to spend in this environment filled with violence. No matter if you are an adult or a teenager, no one should spend endless hours on these games. They are hurting us and our future generations to come. These are reaching the wrong audiences and are becoming addictive, taking away important life experiences. Individuals are losing many skills as they are spending close to all of their time interacting with false violent situations in video games. This often gives people the idea that these acts of violence can become a reality, even when it shouldn’t. Many use this as an escape from the real world, but is this somewhere people should want to spend their time? Should these violent video games be better than their real life? These are all questions we need to ask ourselves as the violence in addictive video games are taking over our lives. February 15, 2022
Quote- “Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter” - Francis Chan I chose this quote because it has really related to me in the past few weeks. I have learned that fear can not control your life, you only have control over the actions that you take. If you don’t try anything new or step out of your comfort zone, you will never know what could’ve been. It's important to remember that you can’t be scared of something that you have never experienced before. If you try it and then become scared that it is different, at least you tried and can look back knowing that you tried something different and will not have regrets wishing you did something. Fear can control us and it is a horrible feeling, knowing that you want and need to do something but can't do it because you are fearful of what is going to happen. It honestly is awful knowing that you can’t do anything to prevent this fear from taking over your body and stopping you from performing goals that you have set for yourself. It is also very challenging to change your mindset once you are afraid of something. Over the past few weeks I have learned both the importance of overcoming fear and challenging yourself, but also not being able to push yourself to completely overcome certain fears and force yourself to do something you know that you need to do. I hope that someday I am able to overcome specific fears just like I have for other fears. Fear should be something that motivates you, not destroys you. Blog 22
March 1, 2023 Everything's an argument - Do you believe that everything happens for a reason? I think that it's difficult to look at every situation and say that it happened for a reason. Obviously things happen within our lifetime that we have no control over and no say what happens next. Is that the way we want life to go? No, but we do have the power to influence our future. I believe that life is different for everybody, and in the end we all succeed and fail at different things. No one is the same and yes, things happen in everyone's lives for a reason. Whether they are good or bad, they always lead to something else. Within life certain lessons need to be learned and that comes from experiencing great things and things we don’t always want to happen. I also believe that it's difficult to see why everything happens for a reason. For example, if you lose a loved one, how can that possibly be a building step to your future? All that we can learn is to move past the difficult situations as hard as it is, and become a stronger person. I don’t think that anyone would 100% agree that everything happens for a reason. However, I think that we can all agree that our lives are all different for certain reasons. We are who we are because of our surroundings and environments that we live in. Everything happens for a reason, whether we want to believe it or not. The real question is, are you a strong enough person to handle those challenges? Can you allow yourself to see things as a pathway to a bigger success and make yourself learn from situations you don’t always agree with? I believe that we have to see it within ourselves to overcome obstacles that were put in our way for a purpose. Blog 24 March 15, 2023 Quote of the week: “The toughest thing about the power of trust is that its very difficult to build and very easy to destroy”-AU No one in their lifetime can trust everyone they come in contact with, especially some people close in their life. There is always someone in your life, at least for me that you love, but know you can’t trust them 100%. It's so difficult to come to realization when they show this act of untrustworthiness, but deep down you aren’t really that surprised. It's crazy to me that people live their life knowing that you don’t mind if people don’t feel like they can trust you. I try my hardest to make sure that everyone around me feels that they can trust me in some way or another. I have close friends that I know I can trust and rely on just like they can to me. Personally I believe that when trust is broken once, it will never be the same again. Sure, you can say you forgive someone or that you trust them but it really never is to the same extent as before, because deep down you know and will never forget the way they broke trust in the beginning. That is what the quote is describing, the power that trust can hold over a relationship is crazy, because trust keeps the entire relationship together. It does take time to trust someone completely and that is why it is so painful when someone breaks this trust, because it was being built up to. Once you reach that level of trust, it ruins everything when it is broken. Blog 26
April 5, 2023 Prompt: Would you rather be able to change the past or change the future? Why? The easy answer to this question is both, who wouldn’t want to be able to fix their mistakes that they have made small or big. Everyone messes up now and then and the simplest way to keep things the way you want is when you are able to change things to what you wish you would have done in the first place. However, making your future exactly the way you want it is something that everyone wants in their life. Choosing exactly what college you get into, What grades you get, how successful you really are in life can be at the fate of your own hands. You will always be able to make sure you get the things you want. Personally, I believe that both of these things come with a LOT of responsibility and can be used in a harmful way. Some people, including part of myself, believe that things in life happen for a reason. So should we even change anything at all? Should we be allowed to have that much power that determines our entire lives, as well as affecting others. Luckily, this is something that we will never have to decide because it is simply not realistic. If I had to choose, I wish I could change things in the past. Changing things in the past would allow myself to become a better person and overall learn from my mistakes and when it is right to change them. It's so difficult to choose one of these because either way they heavily impact our lives. |

September 14 2022 Prompt of the week- Explain your thoughts on banning books. Banned books week starts on September 18th. Many of the books we teach at Ripon High have either been challenged or banned in some districts across the country. Do you see dangers in limiting the texts that we are able to read? Explain your thoughts on censorship of free speech. I believe that banning books has a point to it, but not one that should overrule the point of why we may read it in school. I think people may have a point that we should watch what we are reading and what they may be teaching schools, but if they have been teaching the same material for years, what is the point of changing it now? I feel that if you find any reason possible to ban a book, then our education system will be very limited on their options that they should be teaching. If we ban a lot of books, we will be taking away freedom and the ability for students to learn about necessary topics in school. This shows that while some topics may be a little unprofessional for the school setting, by banning these books we are taking away opportunities for students to think for themselves and be open minded when reading this strong content. You can’t be protected from everything in the world all the time. If we sheltered kids from what may be wrong in the world, or not be viewed as right in society, nobody would ever learn what the real world is like. There are sensitive topics, but this is not something that we can ignore, especially not in our education system. Over all banning books, take away what has been taught to so many children already, without harm. Sometimes in life we can’t all like or agree on one thing, and unfortunately banning books is one of them. Word count: 258 Blog 7-
Prompt: Explain your thoughts on the idea that high school athletes should get drug tested weekly if participating in school sports. Do you think that is a good or bad idea? Explain. I think that it would be a good idea to get highschool athletes drug tested at school when actively playing sports. I think that having these tests done weekly however, may be a little excessive. Maybe having them every two weeks, the student athletes may get less annoyed and would be more willing to be tested. I think that students should understand that participating in school sports is a privilege and it can’t be taken for granted by any circumstance. If student athletes are on drugs while playing a sport, it can not only be extremely dangerous for that said athlete, but is also against school policy and could get that student in a lot of trouble if found to be using drugs. I think that this could be a great lesson for kids when they get to become adults. If you ever show up to a job on drugs, there would be little to no exception when it came to keeping them at that job. Bad decisions can stick with you for life and can majorly affect your future. I think that this could be a great lesson for high school students to learn now before they have to think about doing these mistakes again at a job or something healily important to their future. So overall, I think this is a good Idea to have student athletes drug tested, it well prepares them for the future, and different things they will have to handle later on in life. October 19, 2022
Blog 9- Prompt- Do nice guys finish last? I think that this can have a lot of different perspectives and meanings when it comes to this prompt. Not only can people think differently about this, people may have completely different opinions. Personally I believe that this all depends on the situation and context this is asked in. For me it also depends on the timeline this is asked. I think in high school the nice guy does finish last because they are constantly overlooked. Not only do they have a great personality, but most of them are probably organized and setting up for their future. I feel like when you are in highschool your life is so different from before and after. When everyone is out of highschool, I feel like there definitely are not as many labels. For example, the nice guy. I believe that when we meet people out of highschool, we won’t be thinking about if they played sports, were popular, or “the nice guy” in highschool. Of course I am not completely sure how everyone will act because I am still in highschool. I feel that you change every stage of your life. Nobody in high school cares about what elementary school you went to, or how you acted when you were there. Just as when you graduate from high school and leave, not everybody cares about your past life in high school as it is just four years of your whole life. I think in the long run the nice guy finishes first in their success and life, however during highschool years, they finish last as they are overlooked. Blog 11
11/9/22 Challenge: All-girl schools have been gaining popularity in recent years because of the belief that girls learn better when they aren’t competing with or intimidated by boys, who statistically get more attention in the classroom. Do you think single-sex schools are a good idea? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to support your position. I do understand the point of having no distractions while in school, but in the long run there are so many reasons why this is not practical. The main point I want to make clear is that after school, when you are in the real world there is no going to a single-sex job. When you are in the working industry there are going to be interactions throughout your day with the opposite sex. I think by going to a single sex school, there is no preparing for the future. School is mostly about gaining an education, but also to help develop certain skills needed for students' future. There are some points that make sense such as less distractions, but there are going to be distractions in your everyday life. This takes students ' awareness of the real world, and does not teach good morals. Behavior issues may have better outcomes in a single sex school, but that does not mean it is okay in the world. With this they will never learn that Boys and Girls should not be treated differently. Mixed gender schools show the importance of treating everyone with respect, which students will not receive the skill set of this to use later on in life. Overall, I do understand why some people see the benefits of these school programs, but same-sex schools really do not prepare students for their future properly, weather that is by gaining respect for others, or just not showing them realistic situations for their future. 11/30/22 Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates Steve Jobs, founder of 2.35 trillion dollar company Apple and Bill Gates, founder of 1.90 trillion dollar company, are one of the most competitive companies in the world. These companies hold a popular name because of how many people buy their products. The world of technology would not be the same without these two companies being founded. With that being said many individuals have opinions whether one or the other is better in terms of technology. This brings competition into the market of both companies. These two founders are constantly trying to bring things to their company that the other competitor does not have to bring in more sales, and even get a better reputation. Competition can be friendly, if not taken out of hand. Sometimes, it is nice to have drive in making your work better, sometimes that drive comes out of competitiveness around us. These two individuals, Jobs and Gates are a great example of competition taken out of hand. It started with the two working together, and constantly bouncing Ideas off each other. However, after they had one too many disagreements in their work, they turned away from each other. Throughout the years they have not spoken and have only stuck to their own work, focused on being better than the other. I think that it is important to be aware of your surroundings and constantly push yourself to be better. Competition can also be taken advantage of and turn you into someone who does not take others into consideration. It's important to remember that you can have competitiveness, all while still staying true to a kind heart. December 14 Personality Quiz- Lively center of attention Being the center of attention is something that I would like to be, but don’t feel I am. Personally, I like when I am outgoing and there definitely are times that I am the center of attention, but only in a few groups. When I am in class or around a large group of people I tend to sit back and not do many things to draw attention to me, which I like. I always think about what my life would be like if I wasn’t always that quiet, but then I remember that I like my personality. I don’t mind letting others have the attention. I feel like I am in between being a quiet person and being the center of attention. I don’t necessarily think I am the center but I do think that I am friends with a lot of people. When I am around the right people I am definitely loud and have a more outgoing personality. I am not sure exactly how I feel about the quiz results, I was only 3 points away from scoring “the loyal friend” . Personally I think this describes me a lot better than the center of attention. I feel like I am a good friend and will do anything that someone needs. I choose to be friends with only those who are a true friend back and I think that is why I value friendship. I think that this quiz was on the right track but not exactly how I believe my personality shines through. Blog 17
January 25, 2023 Prompt: Describe one of the best meals you have ever eaten. One of the best meals I have ever eaten was a salad at a restaurant in Half Moon Bay Ca. My family goes to Half Moon Bay often and we go to this restaurant a lot, but I have only gotten this salad once. I would say the salads are one of my favorite foods and I eat them a lot. They are my go to when I need a quick easy meal, or feel like I need something fresh to eat. This salad had crisp butter lettuce, bright blood oranges, toasted pumpkin seeds and flaky croutons, with a dill dressing. This salad was ice cold when it came to the table. All of the best salads are always served very cold, but this one is at the top of my list. The blood oranges on the salad allowed it to have a sweetness that wasn’t too strong, it was citrus so it also brought a sense of sourness which balanced perfectly. The toasted pumpkin seeds added the perfect crunch and roasted flavor to the salad and the dill dressing brought the flavors all together. The best thing about this salad was that it was simple, it was perfectly balanced and could be paired with just about anything. I also got minestrone soup which was amazing with this salad. Some could say it was more of a summertime salad because of the fruit that was on it, but I would eat it all year round. This is a salad I will always get when I go back to this restaurant. February 1, 2023 Quote of the week- “ There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just trying to move us in another direction” I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I think that this quote signifies this same thing. When you don’t reach the end goal that you were hoping for, many people see this as failure instead of a stepping stone. However, personally I think that failure can mean many different things to many different people. To me failure means going through a phase of disappointment first and then realizing that you can’t just always feel sorry for yourself. There is a point in your life when you have to take the “failure” you have faced and use it as encouragement to try again or maybe try for something different. There are always going to be opportunities in life and they all won’t end up the way you want them to. For example, in my freshman year of high school I interviewed to be a freshman representative in my high school’s leadership program and did not make it in. I was sad and disappointed, but then I was able to try again the next year. My sophomore year I repeated the same steps, Interviewed again and made it in the program. I was able to use my failure to try harder for the future and receive the end goal that I wanted for myself. It's important to remember that failure doesn’t always necessarily mean that things won’t turn out the way you wanted. You may just have to fail before you succeed in the things you want in life. February 23, 2023 Old vs. New What can older people learn from your generation? Explain. I think that older people can always learn new things, especially from someone younger than them because we are always evolving. No matter what new generations mean new lessons learned, new skills throughout life, and all around just learning new things. I think that the older generation can learn how to pick up on things quicker. I believe that my generation is super intelligent in the sense that we are able to learn new things fast and be able to use these new skills. I think that my generation also does not hesitate when it comes to learning these new things. I think that we love competition and are always motivated to learn new skills to compete with each other, in a good way. I think that competition is amazing for everyone, if we use it in the right way. If we use competition as motivation to better ourselves at something, not just to go against someone I think it really improves everyone as a person. However, I think that competition is something that we could learn from older generations. Nowadays I believe that my generation often abuses the power that competition can hold. We often only view it as wanting to out compete with other individuals, instead of wanting to better ourselves at that said thing. I think that the older generations used competition as fun, they wanted to motivate themselves and others to be better people. I think that while older people can learn a lot from my generation, it's important to remember that my generation can also learn a lot from the older generation. Blog 23
March 8, 2023 Object of the week - Phone case Phone cases protect one of the most important things to people in our society. Our phones. Everyone has a phone and almost everyone has a pretty good phone case to protect it. So why is it so crucial that we have these cases? Yes, they can explain our personalities and styles as there are so many different options to choose from. But, the real reason is that they protect the most important thing to us that is fragile and breaks at any moment. A lot like how people put up a front to protect our true selves and feelings that we don’t want others to see. We don’t want to look or seem fragile to others, or break at any moment. Just like how phone cases protect our phones and it's so important that we have them. It's also so important to us to build up our confidence and ways we act in everyday life to protect our true selves. We don’t always like the real us all the time, we can’t let our guard down to everyone, because we wouldn’t feel as protected. When we have our front up or when our phone has its case on, it's more likely we won’t get hurt. Phone cases are an amazing example about how we live our lives. When we need a shell of protection there, we don’t have to be so vulnerable. When we want to be a little more brave, it's easy to take our phone case off and be who we want to be. Blog 25
3-22-23 Prompt: What makes up your online persona? Are you the same person on social media that you are in real-life? Are you as social, outgoing, or confident in real-life? Explain either way. Additionally, Do you ever suspect people are posting images on social media that show them in a one-dimensional way, to make others think they are perfect, with a perfect life? I don’t believe anyone who puts their life on social media is 100% raw and honest about what they are sharing. Social media often gives people room to show more confidence than they would in a real life situation. Personally, I don’t think I lie on social media but I definitely show a bit more confidence. I think sharing a picture of yourself is what proves confidence to take it to the next step. When sharing pictures of myself, I know that I won’t have to face peoples comments and reactions in real life, however this also comes with others having more confidence in what they are saying to you. Comments can be harsh, I am grateful I haven’t had an experience with this, but I know many individuals who have. Social media is not something we should be living our lives for, we shouldn’t do something just because it makes a good social media post. For example, on my instagram I have pictures of me over the summer when I was on vacation in San Diego, I didn’t specifically go to this place so I share pictures of myself there. Yes, I took pictures to post but I think there is a big difference between the two. However, I am guilty of only sharing the good moments, but I don’t see anything entirely negative about that, your social media page is somewhere you want to look back and feel good and happy about what you have posted. Posts don’t always have to be for someone else to see, they can often be something you want to look back on and remember the good moments that came with the pictures. I don’t think social media is healthy the way our generation uses it, however I do think that if we used it in the correct way and focused more about our own life before judging others, social media could be an amazing addition to our world.
