Allison Camara - Spirit Commissioner 2022-2023
Initial Letter-
Going into the school year I have set high expectations for myself, and I am hoping this program helps me succeed in meeting those goals. By taking one day at a time I think It will remind me that I do not need to stress over the small things. This year I want to focus on keeping myself healthy while still working hard to exceed all of my goals. I am extremely excited to start this year off on a good note as we continue to bond and grow as a class from core camp. Core camp taught me that it is important to be close with your peers as you are working with these individuals for the next school year, if not longer. As core camp made us already grow so much closer within our leadership class, I hope that we continue this growth throughout the school year. I am determined to keep the student body involved and hopeful that our school spirit around campus will continue to increase. I am super excited to work with the other spirit commissioners to create new ideas to keep the student body engaged and involved by showing school spirit around campus. Last year I learned that your hard work pays off, but you can not overload yourself with stressful situations, and need to use your time wisely. By taking things one step at a time I hope I will get things done quicker while not stressing myself out. Ultimately, I am excited to grow as a class and individual throughout the program for the 2022-2023 school year. I want to step out of my comfort zone and try new things and try to encourage others to do the same. I am a strong believer that high school is what you make out of it, so my intention is to do everything in my power to create a great environment for everyone on campus. Overall, I am extremely excited to start the year strong and just continue to grow.

Favorite Quotes
- “The best thing about the future is that is comes one day at a time” - Abraham Lincon
To me this quote means that you can’t think too far ahead. When you are constantly thinking about what your life is going to be like on a year or two from now, you lose focus on what your short term goals are. The next day is what counts and you have to think about your life all the time, not just what it's going to end up like.
- “I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” —Estée Lauder
This quote is constantly reminding me that if I want my life to be what I have imagined, I have to work hard. I need to push myself through the obstacles and always remember what I am working for. Success takes time and it is different for everyone. This quote tells me that instead of dreaming about what my life could be like one day, I need to find ways step by step that could actually take myself to that level of success.
-“Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” — Will Rogers
When I read this quote I am reminded that if I dwell on what happened yesterday, or even a week ago, I will never be able to move forward. I have to always remind myself that the past is the past and to forget it in a sense of learning from your mistakes and moving one. I often only think about my mistakes and not what I can do to move on and learn, so this is a quote I hope to use more often in my life.

My biggest inspiration-
I would say the past year my mom has really been my biggest inspiration. She has shown me to never give up even when I am not at my best. My mom has always been here to pick up anyone in my family, all while continuing her everyday life. I really felt this last year when I felt I was at my worst and she spent all of her time making sure I was her number 1 priority. She is always there for me, and always makes sure I am being the best version of myself. She will forever put her all in our family, and that's what I see as a role model. I hope that I follow in her footsteps as I grow, and am strong. I hope my mom sees my appreciation everyday.

Inner animal-
I choose my inner animal to be a fox. Foxes are quick with their actions but are still very introverted. I feel that this applies to me as I always feel like I have Ideas and find solutions quickly. I also try my best to help out in the best way possible. I do find myself to be outgoing, but have also found it is most important to stay in and keep to myself. I found that foxes are under great pressure and often work best in intense situations. I found this to be incredibly relatable, I am always doing my best when I know It needs to be done. I think this is part of the reason I procrastinate so much, but I am also working on that. Foxes are also nocturnal, which is something I found interesting because I love to work in the night. I am definitely not a morning person, yet another trait I found to be relatable with the fox.

Ever wonder 'bout what he's doin'?
How it all turned to lies?
Sometimes I think that it's better
To never ask why
Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
Funny how the heart can be deceiving
More than just a couple times
Why do we fall in love so easy
Even when it's not right?
Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
You've gotta get up and try, try, try
Ever worry that it might be ruined
And does it make you wanna cry?
When you're out there doing what you're doing
Are you just getting by?
Tell me, are you just getting by, by, by?
Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
You've gotta get up and try, try, try

The song I chose is Try by Pink. I think that in the past year I have reached so many obstacles in the Path I want to be on and for a long time I saw no end to the constant things going wrong in my life. For a period of time I was honestly depressed because all I could think about is what I missed, and what I should’ve been doing this entire time while I was sick. I couldn’t come to terms that some things may go wrong but that doesn’t mean you stop trying completely. I went from being a straight A student my entire life to my sophomore year hitting and barely getting passing grades. Of course these were never my intentions when going into my sophomore year, but rarely ever being able to get out of bed set limitations for my abilities. This year I was able to come back strong and even with some off days I am able to function a lot better. This year my grades are not perfect because I still do miss a portion of my classes due to my health, but they are such an improvement. This song is about never giving up even when you feel like there is never going to be a turning point. It says in the song, “But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die. You've gotta get up and try, try, try”, this shows that when you have these setbacks in your life you can’t just stop. You have to persevere through the obstacles and come out a stronger person. I was able to retake some of my classes from last year and raise the grades that reflect me as a person. I don’t want to have these grades be what colleges look at because I know they don’t prove who I am. I view myself as a hard worker that never gives up, and that is what this song reflects.
What I like best about being a Member of leadership: Section 13
I love being a candy girl! I look forward to 4th period every Friday and spirit weeks, so I can give out candy to the spirited student body. Not only does this give me the best excuse to go all out for school spirit, but also encourage others to do the same. This being Spirit crew’s main focus is one of my favorite things about leadership. Next year, if I am doing the same role, I hope to incorporate more into our job, but definitely keep us familiar faces on Friday's key. Another favorite memory I have from this program is core camp. This is the first year I was able to experience the true meaning and importance that core camp serves for our program. I made so many memories with my friends, but also took so many valuable lessons, and was able to share them when we were back to our campus. I think being away on a college campus is one of the best parts about this program, it forces us as leaders out of our comfort zone and makes us able to meet so many new people. While we meet many new people, we are also forced to spend time with others in our program. This helps us become a family and I feel that this helped this year’s class become much closer than last year. Core camp will forever be one of my favorite memories after graduating, and having to leave the program behind. My last memory I want to share is recent, and it is preparing for winterfest 2023. This was honestly one of the first times that you could tell the Junior Class had it together. If it weren’t for Lucia and Jenna we would not even be close to done with our poster for the bleachers. Of course there was help from many individuals, but they made everything come together. With having everything organized, it made it fun to work on it, we acted like a team. Being able to actually see your vision come to life and having fun in the process was so nice. I hope that this continues into the future, and especially our senior year.

A Reflection of a Peer in Leadership: Section 14
Jenna Skavdahl, the kindest, most hardworking, and organized person I know. Jenna showed her importance in the program during winterfest. She offered her house to work whenever we needed and it was possible. She worked extra hours making sure our HUGE poster was completed, and done correctly. She never missed any of the times that were set up to work on winterfest, she truly made the whole thing happen. Without Jenna I don’t know what the Junior class would’ve done. She does this in a lot of events the Juniors put on, but this one stood out to me the most, she never let anyone down. Jenna kept a smile on her face even when she was stressed and worried. Jenna is the only person I know who spends time everyday writing in her journal, then going back and crossing out what she completed. She is truly an inspiration to many, as she never fails to have every detail written down. Jenna completes the Junior class and we would be lost without her.

What I love to do:
I feel like I don’t have too many hobbies but rather things I enjoy doing. If I had to pick a hobby it would definitely be volleyball. I have found a love for this sport, but also the relationships it has brought me. Volleyball has always been a place where I have fun and feel good. Working out is important to me because it makes me feel a lot better health wise and I think volleyball really helped with that. Something that makes me so happy is hanging out with my friends. I don't think about how lucky I am to have so many amazing friends that care about me. I feel like I fit in and have a place everywhere because of them and that is why I enjoy being around them all the time. I consider hanging out with my friends as not exactly a hobby, but instead something I love spending my time doing. They are who I choose to surround myself with and that takes a lot of my time. I wouldn’t have it any other way, I love being busy!

Letter to my Parents:
I can truly not thank my parents enough, if it's not my dad working endless hours to give our family opportunities that many others don’t have, it's my mom always being there whenever I need something. Over the past two years I have been a handful, never feeling good, when I travel to watch me play 10 hour days of volleyball. I think that I don’t always realize just how much my parents do for me. Anything I want or need they always make it happen, they make sure I have everything I need in order to succeed in pretty much everything I do. I could list countless things that they have done, traveling to the best places, making the best memories that it seems like something we do so often now. I am so grateful that I am given the opportunity to experience my life the way I am because of them. The way that they sacrifice a lot to give my sister and I the best opportunities they can. I am always asking for something or needing something and they both don’t think twice about doing whatever they can to help me. Over the past two years they have been at every doctor's appointment, willing to do whatever it takes to help me feel better. I have tried things that I never ever thought I would have to and they have been there every step of the way. When I asked about touring colleges this summer they didn’t hesitate to plan out an entire summer trip around me. They are completely selfless and I honestly don’t know what I am going to do with them not so close to me when I go to college!!
Section 18 - General Advice
To the Next Spirit Publicity Coordinator,
As a Spirit Publicity Coordinator, you have an important role that heavily involves the student body. If I had to give you a piece of advice for the upcoming year, it would be to plan ahead and not procrastinate. A main part of your job is the Pride Tribe Spirit wear, because we made new designs this year. Your main role for this will be figuring out inventory and when it is best to sell it. In my opinion it is smart to sell whenever you can, start at 8th pow wow. This will help you sell a lot of inventory because incoming freshmen will have little to no Ripon High Spirit wear. Communicate with Mrs. Pendleton as you start to make plans for selling this inventory. As far as spirit counts and ordering candy, you will need to communicate with Morty for when she wants purchase orders turned in so she is able to go buy the candy on time. For each purchase order, do not exceed $200 unless Morty tells you otherwise. Pride Tribe Spirit award at the end of the year is pretty much up to you. I know last year we decided donuts were the best option, it was cheap and easy to hand out. This year we decided to spend a little more money with Morty’s approval and we went with Nothing Bundt Cakes. I think that this will be a good choice but we will find out and see. If you ever need a copy of a purchase order, Devina will always give you one. Procedure orders are not something that you do often in the job, but for every major event one will need to be completed. Start on them as early as possible!! Hopefully Leadership gets moved back to 4th period so that Spirit counts are during the normal time of class. Overall this job is pretty relaxed if you stay on top of things. Only a few major events happen under your role during the year, so make them count!! I hope you like working with Spirit as much as I did!

Section 21- The Professional
Two of the most important professional development skills we have covered in the course of this class, is Public Speaking and Interviews. First, public speaking is something that I have always struggled with. Nerves end up getting the best of me and my voice always shakes no matter how rehearsed my speech is. However I can confidently say that throughout this year I have gotten significantly better at speaking in front of an audience. By the time my speech for elections came around I felt calm as I delivered my speech to the entire Sophomore and Junior Class. I would never have been able to do that without the lessons of this program. The next important professional skill I have learned is going through an interview professionally. I would never have the skills I needed to succeed in a proper interview if it wasn’t for the lessons learned in this class. I now know how to answer questions in a professional way, provide a correct cover letter and resume, and most importantly the importance of being yourself in an interview. I am extremely grateful for the way interviews for this program are run because without them I would never be ready for the real world.
Section 22- One page Reflection
Reflecting on myself as a leader is not the easiest assignment, I try to not be that hard on myself but at times I get very frustrated with myself in certain aspects. I try my best to be optimistic and look at the bright side of things and it is something that I work on everyday improving. However, one time this year that I significantly showed frustration as a leader was allowing other peoples actions to get the best of me. It is difficult for any leader to look the other way when other people are getting in the way of your own, or other’s success. For example, this year the Junior class was working on Homecoming and it was not the most smooth sailing. I am not an officer so I technically was not “in charge” of the event but was still a big part of making it happen. Luckily we got through it together, but other’s lack of work and leadership made frustration get the best of me. As a leader I need to work on improving my leadership skills when others aren’t showing the best of themselves as leaders. It's im[portant that I remind myself that no one is perfect and if there is work that I need to pick up for others that is okay. Personally I believe it is easier said than done, because if someone else isn’t willing to give 110% why should I? This isn’t something I always show, but ask myself constantly. However after these frustrating acts repeating themselves this year, I realized that if I wanted to be a leader I needed to put this behind me and step up. I needed to do whatever I could for our class even if individuals were not wanting to. Being a leader means being selfless and wanting others to follow in your footsteps. Next year, I think a change for the future class would be emphasizing the importance of communication even more. This has always been something the Junior Class has lacked and I am hoping with myself as an officer next year I can make that change. Even for the leadership class as a whole I think it can be worked on along with trusting your peers. Nothing will work if you can not rely on your peers to be there to get things done 100%. This also comes with personally proving your credibility as a leader and showing others that you can and will prove your position in the leadership program. I have high hopes for our class next year as a whole and the Senior Class individually. I think that the upcoming Senior Class was definitely in need of a change so I am hoping that it works out in our favor. There are a lot of changes happening in a while. It is a little scary, that just makes it even more exciting. It's crazy that this is going to be my senior year and the class of 2024 is graduating. This thought does nothing but make me want to strive for the best and give it my all in the leadership program next year. I want to have the best year with my class and put my hard work in so that our class has fun. I plan on doing this, one by becoming an officer which I already accomplished and two, by getting everyone involved and communicating!! Becoming a class officer was a huge step for me, I was a commissioner for two years and this definitely made me step out of my comfort zone. I could not be more excited to use this opportunity to prove it to myself why it was important for me to be in this role. Overall, reflecting on myself, the junior class, and our Leadership program as a whole made me realize there are so many opportunities for the upcoming class in 2024. Learning from past experiences and mistakes means a lot, especially as a leader. If everyone stays true to themselves and others we should have no problem succeeding in our roles for the upcoming year!

“Struggles not only make us into stronger, better, and wiser people, they also let us learn more about ourselves and our purpose in life” - Auliq Ice
This quote not only describes me as a leader but also who I try to be as a person. Over the past two years I have gone through many struggles and obstacles in my life and it hasn’t been easy. One thing that made these problems so difficult for me was missing school, being a leader and missing mass amounts of school don’t usually go hand in hand. With all of this I have also come to a realization that these problems have taken over a large part of my life and are almost turning into my personality. This quote represents the struggles that everyone faces, even though they are different for everyone individually we all learn a lesson. So far I have learned that you can’t control everything in your life and it's extremely important to take care of yourself. I stand by that you are your first priority even though it may cause issues between other parts of your life. You have to use these obstacles to your advantage and allow them to make you a better person and leader. The lessons you learn in life are often meant to be passed on to others so they learn from different situations than you did personally. A simple statement like this can impact our future by preparing them to understand that nothing ever goes 100% your way, but that is how you learn as a leader.

The lessons you learn in life are often meant to be passed on to others so they learn from different situations than you did personally. A simple statement like this can impact our future by preparing them to understand that nothing ever goes 100% your way, but that is how you learn as a leader.

Goals
- I hope to grow closer to the entire class this year and feel comfortable with everyone, especially the junior class as a whole.
- I would say by the end of this year I would successfully accomplish this goal. The junior class has definitely grown closer and become more comfortable with each other. This makes me so excited for our senior year together!!

- I want to excel in my job and grow as I was in this position last year as I build from my past experiences.
- This is definitely a goal I feel confident that I have made strides towards achieving. I feel that I stepped into this role with confidence and definitely took charge. I feel that I was able to lead others into making them just as comfortable in their job title.

Short term goals
- I want to better myself as in school and keep my grades maintained to my expectation of where I want them to be.
- I think that overall I am still working on this goal, but as of right now I am working in the right direction. I am getting my grades up from when I started the semester and for me right now that is progress.

- Lower my procrastination habits and learn to be prepared way before necessary
- This is something that I wish I worked on a lot more than I have. I still wait till the last minute to do pretty much everything, and I know I keep doing this because I always find a way to get it done. This is a bad problem to have but this will continue to stay one of my goals in my life.

Long term goals
- Reach a higher education status and continue to grow and succeed in a 4-year college
- I can’t really say that I have met this goal, but I have definitely been working harder towards it.

Section 23
The Ideal Leader -
A leader is someone that other individuals look up to and can count on. They are able to lead others without a doubt that they are doing the right thing and others should follow. When looking at our Leadership class at Ripon High, people are expected to see role models. As leaders on this campus we are expected to set an example for our peers. As far as the workload in this class, it isn’t the lightest. However it is much different than any other class, the work is set to prepare you for your future, keep you organized, and help you with other life skills that other classes can not. Morty makes sure you pay attention to deadlines and that you put effort in detail into all of your assignments in class. Daily activities can vary, always be prepared to work. Somedays it's decorating and preparing for events, somedays it's a curriculum lesson, and others could be work days for whatever you personally need to get done in the class. There are so many positive aspects of Ripon High’s leadership program that I can’t name all of them. Behavior inside and outside of the classroom should be the same. Behavior is so important in this class because you're a role model to other students. You should take this as someone is always watching. Your behavior shouldn’t change when you step out of the classroom. You should show respect to everyone, be kind, and create a positive environment for peers.
