If it doesn't challenge

Initial LetterWhen entering a new stage in your life it is not always easy and you face challenges along the way. This school year I plan to make the best out of what we have. When going to core camp I learned that in order to succeed in this program many skills are needed. I believe that communication and trust can have a huge impact on how the program is viewed by myself and others. I have many goals for the 2021-2022 school year, and a lot of them have to do with communication throughout the student body, and trusting in my peers. I hope to meet my goals with the help of others around me and putting in all my effort. I ultimately want to take this experience and apply it to my own life. I want to truly know my purpose and why I do what I do. I believe that this program will allow me to understand this and take me places I never would have gone before. I think part of this is getting out of my comfort zone and learning from mistakes I may make. Mistakes shouldn’t weigh you down, but instead make you stronger. With this being my first year in leadership, I know I have a lot to learn. I can’t wait for the opportunities I will be able to take advantage of this coming year. This program has already helped with my organizational and planning skills. Getting to work with new people is going to be a great experience so I understand how others work as well as them understanding how I go about things. I want to reach many goals not just by the end of the year but within my time here at Ripon High and by having a strong work ethic and allowing myself to accept criticism, I believe that I will be able to achieve this goal. Having a strong positive mindset is huge in this aspect. As difficult as it can be I want to be true to myself and keep this mindset even when things don’t go my way. I can’t wait till I am able to truly understand the importance of leadership skills and why they are so impactful on your future.

Spreading more school spirit
I feel that as a spirit Commissioner it is important to my job that we get the student body involved. I don’t want anyone to feel excluded and I want others to get excited about dressing up. The students should want to be a part of school events, and spirit days, they should try to encourage their friends to do the same. I hope that this year I am able to tell and show students why it is so important that they are involved in as much as possible around campus.
Sharing the why the student body should get involved
I believe that the more students we have participating in school events the more excited others will get. I want to help the students at Ripon High understand why they should want to participate in these things. I think they don’t fully realize the impact they have on others. It is a chain reaction, if someone dresses up for spirit days it is likely their friends will. I hope to reach the students and allow them to open up to the idea of getting involved and understanding why it is important.
Keeping up good grades
I think that keeping up my grades is so important to me because it represents who I am. I want to be responsible and take care of my work to show I care. I want to prove that this is something I am able to maintain while participating in extracurricular activities. I want to show this success and be proud of it. This is something that is so important to me so I can prove to myself that hard work does pay off
Keeping a life balance I feel that I have so much going on in my life right now, and I love that but sometimes I need a reminder to take a break. I hope that throughout the year I can show myself a healthy life balance and understand that it is okay to slow down once in a while. Right now, I can’t imagine my life any other way than how chaotic it is, but I also really enjoy my down time. The little downtime that I do have is a great reminder to stay organized and keep things planned to wear. I allow time for myself. This is a goal I really want to focus on with school, sports, and extra things I have going on.
Life Long Goals Maintaining my Happiness
Maintaining my happiness I have luckily been able to do throughout the school years. I hope to continue this throughout my life and put it off onto others. I think that a person's happiness shows through their personality and their work. If someone is not happy it is hard to be motivated. When you are not motivated to do something it is very difficult to succeed. I hope that I can show others the importance of self care and why it needs to be a priority. I also want to constantly remind myself
Being successful Being successful can mean so many different things to so many different people. To me this means having a good education and holding a good job. I want a job that I enjoy, that pays well, and will help me support a family. I want to look back and not regret choices I made. I hope that this is something I can do that carries throughout my entire life. I want to be an example to others of how hard work pays off, I want to make people around me proud, but most importantly I want to prove to myself I will be successful.

Page 1- Plans can changeYou may have a set plan, but things happen, get in the way, and can turn the set plans into something you could have never thought. That's okay. Life is full of challenges, and not everything is going to go your way everytime you hope for it to. If plans don't turn out as hoped, there is always something you can do about it. Everything happens for a reason and sometimes you just have to let things go before you try and change the outcome.

Page 2- Opportunites never endWhen things don't turn out the exact way you had hoped, there is always a way to change it. When oppotunities you have been waiting for don't happen, there is always another option. Opportunities come and go and you can never be garunteed the best opportuniy will come right away. What you can wait for is the right one to come your way at the right time.

Page 3 - Facing challenges
Most of the time its hard to get your way no matter what, but it never comes with the easy way out. When you want something that bad, it doesn't matter the difficulties or challenges you have to face to get there as long a you get your way. Perserverence is key in succeding in life. You will not get everything you want and that is why somethings are so challenging but as long as you get the outcome you were hoping for it was worth every challenge.

Inner Animal
I think that one animal that mostly represents me and my personality is a penguin. Throughout these creatures' lives, you can see that they are a little outgoing while still being shy. As a person I think I am always up to new adventures and trying new things but also keep to myself. Sometimes I would rather stay in then go out and when doing new things I do tend to keep to myself. Penguins are known for being intelligent and like to only show their side that they want people to see. I think that this relates to me because I like to show people my shyer side as I get to know them before I open up completely to another individual. Penguins are also challenged in their everyday life as they have to learn to find solutions quickly. I believe that I definitely am good and coming up with ways to solve problems. I like to do whatever I can to help others and stay calm when things go wrong and find a solution. I think a penguin most relates to me because we have many of the same characteristics.
Role Model
One person who I have always looked up to is my Grandmother. She always amazes me on how much she does for our family and how she is never selfish. She will drop anything to help anyone and always wants what is best for you. I always love to be around her fun and loving personality. Whenever things might not go the way anyone wanted she always looks on the bright side. I hope that she is proud of my accomplishments as I strive to be like her. There is not one thing I Would change as she has always added so much joy to my life. I can’t imagine my life without her and all she contributes to it. Holidays are always perfect because of her and she never lets anyone down. I hope she knows how much I attempt to be like her in everyday life.

The impact of sounds and words
Song- Eyes Open By Taylor Swift
Everybody's waitin'
Everybody's watchin'
Even when you're sleeping
Keep your eyes open
The tricky thing
Is yesterday we were just children
Playing soldiers
Just pretending
Dreaming dreams with happy endings
In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords
But now we've stepped into a cruel world
Where everybody stands and keeps score
Keep your eyes open
Everybody's waitin' for you to break down
Everybody's watchin' to see the fallout
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping
Keep your eyes open
Keep your eyes open
Keep your eyes open
So here you are, two steps ahead and stayin' on guard
Every lesson forms a new scar
They never thought you'd make it this far
But turn around (turn around), oh they've surrounded you
It's a showdown (showdown) and nobody comes to save you now
But you've got something they don't
Yeah, you've got something they don't
You've just gotta keep your eyes open
Everybody's waitin' for you to break down
Everybody's watchin' to see the fallout
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping
Keep your eyes open
Keep your eyes open
Keep your eyes
Keep your feet ready
Heartbeat steady
Keep your eyes open
Keep your aim locked
The night goes dark
Keep your eyes open
Everybody's waitin' for you to break down
Everybody's watchin' to see the fallout
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping
Keep your eyes open
Keep your eyes open
Keep your eyes open
(Keep your eyes open)
Keep your eyes open
The meaning behind the lyrics-
I think that these lyrics speak numbers about how I view our world. This song relates to me as I feel time goes by so fast if you don’t stop and slow down. I think that this song also describes as we grow older and even grow as people there is so much pressure put on us. If we don’t “Keep our eyes open” and watch the world around us and enjoy the moment we are in, everything flies by and nothing has as much meaning as it should. Even though this song is simple, I think that it says so much about how a majority of people are feeling today. When she says “every lesson forms a new scar”, this shows how yes, sometimes everyone makes a mistake or two, but we need to get past them as we are learning lessons along the way. But, as we get past these we also need to take the time to learn and grow, and not let time slip away.
What I like best about being a member of Leadership
Throughout the 21-22 school year I have loved the experience of becoming a leader through the Ripon High Program. One of my favorite things is constantly connecting with new people inside and outside of the classroom. We are always interacting with the student body, and this has brought me closer to so many new individuals. My second favorite thing about the program so far is learning and developing my leadership skills. This program has taught me about communication, the importance of meeting deadlines, and working with others as a team. These are skills that I have thought about, but never truly got the chance to experience as I continue to build them. As building these skills has helped me in the program, it has also helped me in my personal life as I learn more about relationships, organization, and communication throughout my own life. The last thing that I enjoy most about leadership is promoting my skills to help the school. Being a part of helping with school events has really shown me how much I enjoy working on completing something great for others to see and experience. Watching something you work on become a reality is amazing. I love being able to have the opportunity to experience this program, and all it has to offer. I hope I can continue with the program throughout the rest of my high school career.
Peer Reflection
For my peer reflection, I chose to write about Abby Thompson. Abby is always there when needed, and never hesitates to offer her help to others. She is the type of person you want to be around all the time because of her caring, loving, and genuine personality. I don’t think there is one specific time where Abby has shown so much selflessness and helping qualities, because this is what she shows every moment of everyday in her life. Whenever someone is gone for Spirit counts, Abby is always there to step in where help is needed. She is continually pushing others to their full potential, as she never goes a step under her own. I have been fortunate to work with Abby outside of the Leadership program and can confidently say she always exceeds standards in everything she does. Abby is always there when I need help on homework, someone to talk to, or simply reminding me to turn in Spirit counts on time. The leadership program will not be the same without her next year, and I don’t think anyone will be able to even closely fill her spot.

What I love to do...
Volleyball is one of my favorite hobbies, and I can’t imagine my life without it. I started to play volleyball 3 years ago and haven’t stopped playing ever since. When playing this sport, not only have I realized my passion and love towards it, but I have grown so much. This has helped me grow as a person in so many ways such as building strong relationships and learning how to work with other people. This sport has also taught me the importance of communication with other individuals and what can happen without it. When I started to play Volleyball my freshman year, I already knew a lot of the girls, but actually being on a team with them made me create new and stronger relationships with them. This has also showed me it is possible to love something and still be able to work towards a goal. I have also been able to set certain goals for myself while playing this sport. Even though I know I am not as good as others, this is still something I enjoy doing. Overall, this sport has changed my life for the better, and I know that I wouldn’t be the same without it.
Letter to my parents ♡
Dear Mom and Dad,
I just want to say thank you for everything you have done for me. I can’t imagine where my life would be without you guys. I want to thank you for the countless hours you spend trying your best to do everything you can for our family. Thank you for working so hard so we are able to have everything we need and could possibly want. I am so fortunate to have parents who care about me so much and would do anything for me. I don’t think I take into consideration how much you do for me. You guys are truly the best parents I could ever ask for. I am beginning to understand the luxury we have in most things we do and that is because of how hard you guys work. I am so grateful for everything you do, and everything that I have gotten over the past 16 years. I just want you to know how much I appreciate and love you both.
Love,
Allie

The Professional
Throughout the year there are many aspects that we have learned as students in this program. Two of the most important aspects I learned in this year is Learning you are responsible for you and all of your decisions you make as well as keeping on task is important. Throughout the school year I have learned that when you don’t stay disciplined and keep yourself going, it is hard not to give up or get down on yourself. Not only can it be hard to get difficult and big projects done for the student body, it will be difficult for you to complete simple tasks like homework when frustrated. Being in this program I have learned you are in charge of yourself and if something doesn’t get done the right way you can not take it out on other people. While being a spirit commissioner, or any leader you have to learn that if someone doesn’t do their job you step up and help out. While completing spirit counts it is important that you reach the entire student body so splitting up is smart. You have to have an open mind and allow yourself to be open to change, while also remembering you have your own responsibilities that no one else can do for you. In a sense this program made me grow up, realize that I am very close to being an adult and I can’t have people take away the difficult tasks forever. Even though there are separate jobs in the program, you still learn so much as a leader with the entire class. The second most important thing I have learned is that staying on task is so important. In this class you make so many new friends and it can be difficult to not want to talk to them all the time. When decorating the gym or making posters, it is easy to get distracted. One thing this program has shown me is that working with your friends can be productive, you just have to stay on task within the time you have. I have been able to accomplish a lot of planning and certain tasks with help of friends in the program. Overall leadership is an amazing learning experience as you get to handle big responsibilities that make you think about the real word.
Change
When thinking about myself as a leader this year, I think personally I have come a long way. I have learned so much throughout the year, such as skills preparing me for everyday life, but also I learned things about myself. I won’t lie, this year has been a little rough for me battling with my health consistently. However, I have still been learning new things even on my own throughout independent study. This showed me self discipline in many ways when realizing my teachers were now not there with me everyday, I have to step up and take care of myself. Growing through this struggle personally made me grow so much as a person and a leader. As a leader I realized I need to take time seriously and not waste it. It has been very difficult for me not being in the classroom everyday, but I have learned how to communicate and help out as much as I can. I have learned that it is important to work with your classmates as a team and always be there for one another. Throughout this process there have of course been some ups and downs while also being frustrated at my classmates. A lot of the time when one person is frustrated it tends to get to everyone and you can feel the tension between everyone you are working with in that moment. For me this moment during the year was Winter Formal. Of course this was a huge event that was being put on for the student body, so it was not easy and really tested our limits. We had little communication throughout the sophomore class, planned many Pthings last minute, and most importantly had short tempers with one another. It ended up being me and 2 other people cleaning up and that did not make me happy. After the formal had happened we were able to look back and realize we pulled through and made a great event happen. We then were able to get together and talk about what went wrong. I think everyone learned something, but we all realized if we wanted to get something done we had to work with each other. This was our first real project the sophomores had to handle together on their own. Overall this was a great learning experience that everyone got to experience. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other such as our strengths and weaknesses. If there is one thing I would say you need to start out strong with os communication. Over communicating is so much better than being quiet and keeping to yourself. Your classmates need to know what you are thinking and planning so they are always informed. As far as a change for next year, I think we could have more team bonding. I feel overall we are a close group to where everyone knows each other. However, I think I was close with the most people I worked with. I think also core camp this upcoming summer will help with that extremely. There are always going to be people you are closer with than others, I just think maybe some more class time can be spent working together. I think it was hard this year for me individually as well because I haven’t been there as much as I would like to. There is nothing major I would want to change because I find this program so helpful as it is. This class is always my favorite part of the day because I know I get to see my friends and get to work on something I enjoy doing. If I had to pick something to stay it would be the Mentor program. I found this extremely helpful while this being my first year in the program. I felt like I always had someone to ask or contact when I needed help or clarification. I was able to ask simple questions and always felt like I was getting help I needed.
My Ideal Leader-
In my opinion an Ideal leader is someone who you can look up to. They are always willing to learn, as well as help others. While being a leader you should always want to give your input in a respectful way. As a leader you are a role model to those around you. There is no such thing as a perfect leader because we are all still learning, but it is important to know people are watching you. I think while being someone others look up to, you have to be careful about what you do, but also learn to be yourself. Like I said, no one is perfect but it's always important to remember that you are a leader to others. It's okay not to know every answer, but the point is as a leader you should try your best to figure it out. So, I guess An Ideal leader to me should be able to problem solve, be a great role model, and most importantly be themselves.
